As I sit here and listen, yet again, to President Obama's views on abortion, I see a greater agenda. He says that he is pro-choice because women struggle with the issue of abortion every day and they are better equipped to make this decision than the legislators. He also states that he wants to reduce the need to have an abortion by providing women with the resources needed to take care of these children.
Does anyone else hear BIG GOVERNMENT or SOCIALISM in these statements? This is just another well thought out way of increasing people's reliance on the government.
We, as the church, must step up and help these women. It is our responsibility to take care of the needy, not the government's. By allowing the government to take on this role of benevolent caregiver, we are allowing them to usurp our role.
But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed.
Luke 14:13-14 (NIV)
If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. 8 Rather be openhanded and freely lend him whatever he needs.
Deut 15:7-8 (NIV)
It is time for the church as a whole, to act on the word of God.
In His Service,
Angela

Very true!
I'm always stunned when I read that you don't want women to have abortions and you also don't want women to have any supportive programs so that they can raise these children.
So...what? What do you want to do for women who are not churchgoers? Who are fourteen or fifteen and abandoned by their families? Who are single moms of five or six children?
I'm anxious to hear how YOU would solve this.
MOD,
You said,
"...you don't want women to have abortions and you also don't want women to have any supportive programs so that they can raise these children."
That is not what I am saying at all. What I am saying (this post was speaking to believers in Christ) is that it is the responsibility of the church to help any (Christians and non-Christians) who find themselves in need. It is a call for believers to step up to the responsibility that God has called them to. Is this something the church as a whole is doing well? Not at the moment, hence the post.
Yes I do believe abortion is wrong. Destroying a life is not a proper form of birth control and it should be illegal. You and I will probably not agree on this point.
However, the women who find themselves in need should be able to receive help in the form of emotional, physical(including monetary) and spiritual support. This should come from the church, not the government.
However, these women also need to take responsibility for their actions. There are consequences for sexual relations. Pregnancy is one of those. I do believe children are a blessing, not a consequence, however, there is a time for children and for sexual relations. The Bible says that it is within the scope of marriage.
Do Christians make these same mistakes? Sure, some do because we are all sinful.
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23
But the Bible is our blue print for living. It is what we should strive to attain.
When you are obedient to God, all the pieces fall in place.
That doesn't really resolve the issue of who is going to take care of all these children though, does it?
Because there is evidence that the church is NOT going to provide for it. In which case, I think the government needs to step in. If you're desiring fewer abortions, that might be the ONLY path to them.
Please tell me you've never been to the post office or the library! Because if you have...gasp!...you're a Socialist.
Heh. See how that works? :)
MOD,
The government has been involved in abortion for decades and the number of abortions continues to increase. Government involvement does not equal fewer abortions. In fact, as long as the government is giving tax payer money to abortion clinics like PP, they are just helping to increase the number of abortions.
If the government wants to help these children, they can do so by making adoption easier and less expensive. Many families would love to adopt but cannot afford the cost. It is all of the hoops you have to jump through that makes it so expensive.
No, the church (in America-I cannot speak for other countries), as a whole does not do the job that God has commanded us to as far as helping those in need. There are however, many individuals and church bodies who go above and beyond by the world's standards. By God's standards, the work never ends.
In actuality, the church did take care of the needy before the Great Depression. It wasn't until FDR began enacting legislation such as social security (which was intended to be temporary) and welfare that the church began to slowly give over to the government the work God gave us to do. It is no excuse but when the government took on this responsibility, the church let them.
As I stated before, this post was a call for Christians to take back the responsibility God has given us. In love, we are to help those in need. Period. I am not here to solve all the problems of the world. God already has all of the solutions including this one. They are written in His word.

I'm not sure you grasp what a socialist government is. It is when government enacts programs that make people more dependent on the government to survive. They take people's money and redistribute it to make it more "fair" for everyone. I'm not sure how you think the post office or library fits into this. Last time I went to the post office, I payed to mail my package and I am not dependent on the library to live. I can do without it.
I can see you are searching for answers but you are looking in the wrong places. Blogs are not the place you will find them. I would advise that you read God's word. I am not sure of your exact beliefs but I do think that if you were to give God a real chance, He won't disappoint you. You might even find out just how much He loves you.
